Compaq, founded in 1982 by Rod Canion, Jim Harris, and Bill Murto, revolutionized the personal computing industry by introducing the first IBM-compatible computer in 1983, the Compaq Portable. This innovative machine set a new standard for compatibility with IBM's hardware and software, challenging IBM's dominance in the market. Compaq's commitment to compatibility and innovation propelled the company to rapid growth, making it one of the fastest-growing companies in American history. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Compaq continued releasing products like the Deskpro and the LTE series of laptop computers, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry. In 2002, Compaq was acquired by Hewlett-Packard (HP).

This is the one that started the curse, I call it the curse of the unsealed airbags. this compaq LTE Elite 4/40C showed up I think about 3 years ago. apparent was that when it arrived that there seemed to be a lack of packing material. the seller had tried to recreate those airbags made by the sealed air company. but sadly blowing into a ziplog bag and closing them didn't give the same effects as a bag made by an professional company.
because of this the computer did not survive the transport, and is now in a state of disrepair. I made the first attempt to fix it in episode 5 of Computer TLC. sadly trying to replace the dead hard drive with an CF card failed. Il do an second attempt in a future episode of Computer TLC. |
