In 1983, Epson entered the personal computer market with the release of the QX-10, a CP/M-compatible Z80 machine. By 1986, the company transitioned to focusing on the growing PC market with its Equity line. In Japan, Epson also produced and sold clones of the NEC PC-9801. However, Epson withdrew from the international PC market in 1996. Nonetheless, the company continues to manufacture and sell PCs in Japan.

I just really like the form factor of the Epson HX-20. It has a Printer and a cassette drive built in. Just like the screen that even on a good day is quite hard to read. I got this system together with a Tandy Pocket Computer and docking station . In the cassette drive of the machine I found a mystery tape of which I have not yet been able to load the contents. To be safe I made an MP3 and Wav file with a Sony dictaphone although im not sure if it will load. You can find the files by going to the files tab.

I'm pretty sure you will be seeing this computer in a deep dive video where we take a look at what things this machine can do.

My third Epson HX-20, allthough the label says Mitutoyo DP-20. This computer is in need of repair and came with a expansion unit that can be used to interface with other equipment. Definitely something that deserves a deep dive. The ROMS related to the expansion unit in the computer will be archived and become available on my Archive site!

More info to come!
